I hope this list helps you discover some new and amazing software that runs on Linux. I&#8217;ve provided links to the project webpages for more information. Installation of the software should be done via your distros repository such as Ubuntu (sudo apt install Kdenlive) or Arch (pacman -S kdenlive). Some of the software is available as a SNAP or Flatpak so check for universal package options if it is not in your distro repository or software store.<br>One command to install most of the non-proprietary software listed below in Arch distro:<br>$ sudo pacman -S kdenlive peek gimp inkscape tilix fish calibre flameshot krita smplayer strawberry guvcview darktable shotwell remmina thunderbird obs-studio telegram-desktop feedreader deja-dup simple-scan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Kdenlive<\/strong> : Open source non-linear video editor with powerful video creation and export abilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Grok<\/strong>: Less restrictive AI tool, requires X.com premium<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>DaVinci Resolve<\/strong> : Not Open Source Professional video editing tool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>FFMPEG<\/strong> : Convert video or audio files flv to mp4<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Visual Studio Code<\/strong> : IDE Coding and text editor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>OBS Studio<\/strong> : Desktop recording and live streaming software<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Photopea<\/strong> : Online image editing tool for all platforms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inkscape<\/strong> : Image Editor Vector graphics and drawing tool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tilix Terminal<\/strong> : Tiling terminal editor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fish Shell<\/strong> : Smart command line shell (Set Fish as your default shell instead of Bash: chsh -s \/usr\/bin\/fish)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tor Browser<\/strong> : Browser focused on privacy which sends traffic through user run relays. Also access to the Dark Web.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Brave Browser<\/strong> : Web browser with adblocker built in<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Firefox Browser<\/strong> : Web browser with container tabs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Discord<\/strong> : Community hangout and public forum and gaming site<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Steam<\/strong> : Valve based Steam store and game management tool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lutris<\/strong> : Gaming platform and game management tool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Calibre<\/strong> : Ebook management and conversion tool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Krita<\/strong> : Digital painting and drawing tool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bitwarden<\/strong> : Password Manager. Cross-platform and open source.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Standard Notes<\/strong> : Simple note taking tool with advanced capabilities when you need it. Mobile and Desktop app available.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Obsidian<\/strong>: Note taking tool with support for stylus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SimpleScan<\/strong> : Simple utility to interface and create scanned documents including PDF files.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Darktable<\/strong> : Photography workflow and management tool (RAW support) and video\/image downloader works with diverse set of devices including iOS, Android, Nikon, Sony, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shotwell<\/strong> : Photo manager and downloader.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nextcloud<\/strong> : Nextcloud is a powerful self hosted cloud server application for communication, storage of media, notes, contacts, etc. Available as a SNAP.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kodi<\/strong> : Kodi is a free media player that is designed to look great on your big screen TV but is just as home on a small screen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Remmina<\/strong> : Remmina is a remote desktop client written in GTK+, aiming to be useful for system administrators and travellers, who need to work with lots of remote computers in front of either large monitors or tiny netbooks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thunderbird<\/strong> : Free desktop email management tool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ProtonMail<\/strong> : Secure and private email service with free and paid options<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tutanota<\/strong> : Secure and privacy focused email service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>FeedReader<\/strong> : Desktop RSS feed reader and management tool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bleachbit<\/strong> : Clean your system and free disk space use with caution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clonezilla<\/strong> : Powerful disk imaging and cloning tool<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a list of my favorite software applications for Linux.
